Stock Availability and
Glulam Passport
We hold a wide range of glulam beams in stock and process them to exact customer requirements. This page provides an overview of the section sizes we typically carry, along with reference information on fire behaviour, biogenic carbon storage, and supporting certifications.
Stock Glulam Sections
All glulam beams are supplied to engineer-approved specification.
Our stock is focused on commonly specified glulam sections that support fast, dependable turnaround across residential, commercial, and agricultural projects.
Stock levels vary depending on demand, so availability should always be confirmed for specific requirements.
Notes
Section availability varies depending on demand
Additional sizes are available upon request
Final section selection is the responsibility of the appointed structural engineer
Lengths & Processing
We typically hold glulam in standard stock lengths, which are cut to size in-house to meet project requirements.
Processing Overview
- Stock lengths: Standard lengths held in stock
- Cutting to length: Cut to exact required size
- End cuts: Square cut as standard
- Optional machining: Available to engineer-approved details
All machining is carried out strictly in accordance with engineer-approved drawings and specifications.
Lead Times & Turnaround
Holding stock and processing in-house allows us to offer reliable turnaround times once requirements are confirmed.
Lead times are confirmed at the point of enquiry.
Glulam Passport
Every order is accompanied by a delivery note confirming the section size, length, grade, quantity, and weight supplied.
Alongside this, we provide access to our Glulam Passport a reference guide that explains what those details mean in terms of material performance.
The Glulam Passport should always be read together with the delivery note.
What the Glulam Passport Provides
The passport offers reference information for AJ Laminated Beams’ standard glulam products, including:
Product type: Glued laminated timber (glulam)
Species: European whitewood (Picea abies)
Structural grades supplied
Indicative fire design behaviour
Estimated biogenic carbon stored
It is intended to support understanding and record-keeping, not to replace design or engineering input.
Fire Design Reference (Indicative Only)
Glulam has a defined and predictable charring behaviour that can be used by structural engineers as part of fire design. The information below is provided as an indicative reference only to support early-stage design and comparison.
Fire Design Assumptions (Indicative)
Design standard: EN 1995-1-2 (Eurocode 5 – Fire Design)
Notional charring rate: 0.65 mm/min
Exposure: 3-sided exposure assumed
Protective linings: None assumed (bare glulam)
These assumptions are intentionally conservative and are intended for early-stage reference only.
Fire resistance is influenced by section width, exposure, and applied loading
Increasing depth generally improves residual load-bearing capacity
Actual fire resistance may vary depending on detailing and project-specific conditions
*Indicative reference only. Fire resistance performance is dependent on applied loading, exposure conditions, detailing, and project-specific assumptions. Final fire design must be confirmed by the appointed structural engineer and/or fire engineer.
Biogenic Carbon Storage in Glulam Beams
Glulam beams store biogenic carbon absorbed from the atmosphere during tree growth. The information below provides indicative estimates of the amount of CO₂ stored per linear metre of standard stock glulam sections supplied by AJ Laminated Beams. These figures represent stored carbon only and do not constitute a whole-life carbon assessment.
Beam volume per linear metre
Assumed density ≈ 480 kg/m³
Carbon content ~50% of dry mass
CO₂ conversion factor 3.67
~900 kg CO₂e stored per m³
